Chandigarh. Punjab minister Brahm Mahindra welcomed the appointment of Navjot Singh Sidhu as the new president of the state unit, but refused to hold a personal meeting with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh till his issues are resolved. Mahindra said in a statement that the decision to appoint Sidhu has been taken by the high command and it is a welcome one.
However, I will not meet him (Sidhu) until he meets the Chief Minister and resolves his issues with him, Mahindra said.
He said that Amarinder Singh is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party and he is bound to follow him.
Apart from being the CLP leader, the Chief Minister also heads the cabinet of which he is a part.
The minister made it clear that till the newly-appointed state chief Sidhu resolves all issues with Amarinder Singh, there is no possibility that he will meet him in person.
“We have a collective responsibility and therefore, I will refrain from meeting the newly-appointed president until the issues between him and the CM are resolved,” Mahindra said.
Sidhu has been handed over the responsibility of the state by the party high command despite Chief Minister Singh’s opposition to Sidhu’s appointment a few months before the assembly elections in the state. However, the differences between the Chief Minister and Sidhu are not over yet.
The chief minister is yet to congratulate Sidhu for his appointment. Also Sidhu has not gone to meet him due to courtesy.
Both have been holding meetings with leaders to show their loyalty. (IANS)
