Thane (Maharashtra). A 27-year-old woman from Manipur died when she fell from an autorickshaw while fighting with mobile thieves. Police said on Friday that they have caught both the criminals in Bhiwandi town.

Victim Kanmila Arangsev Rising and her friend Lalngursangi Cheuchema Phamchun were working at a spa salon at Viviana Mall here.

On Thursday, around 8 pm, the two caught an autorickshaw to return home after work.

As the auto was passing near Teen Haath Naka Junction, two youths on a motorcycle suddenly tried to snatch his phone. But as soon as Kanmila tried to save her, she fell on the road from the running auto while the two thieves fled in the dark.

Kanmila suffered serious head injuries and Lalngurusangi took her to the Highway Hospital where doctors advised her to be taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in nearby Kalwe. He was declared brought dead during treatment at around 9.30 pm.

Senior police inspector Anil Mangle said the Naupada police station registered Lalangursangi’s complaint and started its investigation by two teams. The police arrested both the bikers, using techno-intel.

We have caught both of them from their homes in Bhiwandi, Mangle said. They are 20-year-old Parvez Momin Ansari and 18-year-old Sohail R Ansari. We are ascertaining his past criminal record.

The police have registered a complaint invoking IPC sections related to robbery, conspiracy and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

According to Kanmeela’s relatives in Mumbai, she was at home in Manipur for the past almost three months. She had come to Mumbai with her three sisters earlier this week to start their new job at the spa beauty chain at Viviana Mall.
