Kabul | Three Afghan soldiers and one attacker were killed in a suicide car bombing in Baghlan province on Thursday. A source of the local army gave this information.
Abdul Hadi Nazri, of the army’s 217th Pamir Corps, told Xinhua news agency that the attacker tried to detonate a car bomb at a military base in Bagh-e-Shamal area of the provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri city in the early hours of Thursday.
When the troops deployed at the base opened fire, the vehicle exploded, resulting in the killing of the terrorist in the vehicle and the martyrdom of three jawans, he said.
He said the terrorists failed to inflict heavy damage on the base after the soldiers responded to the attacker at the first gate of the military base.
The Taliban have intensified attacks on provincial capitals, districts, bases and outposts since the official withdrawal of US and other NATO troops to Afghanistan on May 1.
Tens of thousands of Afghans have been displaced in the past few weeks.
The withdrawal of international troops is to be completed by September 11.
