Gandhinagar. The Gujarat government on Wednesday further relaxed 36 major cities, allowing businesses to open from 9 am to 7 pm. Restrictions imposed on religious and social gatherings and places were also relaxed. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced this relaxation on Wednesday. However, the night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am still continues in these cities.
In view of the increasing number of cases in the second wave of COVID-19, restrictions on business hours and curfew were imposed from late April. But, with the number of cases and deaths steadily declining after reaching a high in April-May, the core committee of the state government headed by the chief minister decided to relax the restrictions.
The government has also decided to allow hotels and restaurants to function from 9 am to 7 pm. at 50 percent capacity. These eateries have also been allowed to function till 9 pm. For takeaway meals and home delivery, the timing has been extended to 12 noon.
The government has also allowed gyms to start functioning with 50 percent capacity. All libraries and gardens have also been allowed to open with 50 per cent capacity.
Rupani said the decision will be effective from Friday morning till June 26. (IANS)
