New Delhi. The father of the rape victim has approached the Supreme Court opposing the bail of jailed Asaram Bapu. The petition, filed through advocate Utsav Bains, claimed that Asaram is highly influential and has political connections and that Asaram has lakhs of blind devotees.
The victim’s father has said in his petition that Asaram had hired the killer, Kartik Halder, who killed and attacked the eyewitnesses. He confessed to the police that Bapu had given orders to kill him.
The victim’s father argued in his petition that during the hearing he and his family members were threatened with dire consequences.
In the petition, the victim’s father has claimed that 10 eyewitnesses have been attacked and three of them have died. It is feared that if Asaram is granted bail, he will take revenge on the rape victim and her family.
The plea said that Halder, the hired killer, has confessed to the police that he had shot at Asaram’s orders, leading eyewitness Akhil Gupta, and that the Uttar Pradesh Police is yet to interrogate or arrest him.
Strongly opposing the bail in the petition, it has been said that Asaram can kill his daughter and family members.
Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for raping a minor, has recently moved the apex court seeking bail for treatment at an Ayurveda center after his bail application was rejected by the Rajasthan High Court.
The Rajasthan government has also opposed his bail, saying that Asaram wants to change his place of custody under the guise of getting treatment. (IANS)
