IslamabadPakistan on Saturday said it would oppose any move by India to partition Kashmir and change its demography. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that India should refrain from taking any further illegal steps in Kashmir after the August 5, 2019 action.
This statement of Pakistan comes at a time when the central government has invited 14 leaders of Jammu and Kashmir to attend a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. It is believed that in this meeting a blueprint for conducting assembly elections in the Union Territory will be prepared. This will be the first meeting of all political parties of Jammu and Kashmir with the Prime Minister after August 5, 2019, when the Center abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories. The erstwhile state is ruled by the Center since November 2018.
Qureshi said that Pakistan has completely opposed India’s move on August 5, 2019 and has taken up the matter in all international forums including the United Nations Security Council. He said that Pakistan vows to oppose any move by India that would divide Jammu and Kashmir to change the demography of the region. He has informed the President of the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations about India’s possible move.
