The MPs alleged that there are huge discrepancies between the allocation made by the Center and the distribution of food grains in the state under PMGKAY and NFSA. The presence of dead people has also been recorded in the list of NFSA (National Food Security Act) ration card holders prepared by the Odisha government. He informed that under PMGKAY scheme, out of 92.83 lakh NFSA cardholders in Odisha, 87.39 lakh beneficiaries in May and 88.23 lakh beneficiaries in June were distributed free food grains. Similarly, under the NFSA scheme, food grains were distributed to 88.76 lakh beneficiaries in May and 88.72 lakh in June.
Discrepancies in these figures not only point to irregularities at the state level, but also point to the registration of names of deceased beneficiaries. The MPs said that there have been reports in the media of smuggling of ration in the open market at the cost of the poor and needy, due to which people are starving.
