Moderna, the pharmaceutical company that makes the corona vaccine, has sought emergency use approval for adolescents aged 12-17 from the US drugs regulator Foods and Drug Administration. This is the second time that Moderna will get approval for the vaccine from the FDA. Prior to this, the use of Moderna Vaccine has already been allowed on all adults and a large number of this vaccine has been applied there.
Moderna’s recent trial data shows that it is completely safe for adolescents. If it is approved, it will be the second option in the vaccination of children in the US before the school opens in 2021. About four weeks before this, the vaccine of Pfizer-BioNtech has been allowed for use on the adolescent age group.
When Moderna’s vaccine was approved by the FDA in December 2020, it was only allowed to be used on people 18 years and above. However, it is clear from recent trial data that children who were given this vaccine did not fall ill after the second dose, while four children given placebo were later found to be corona positive.
