Tokyo. The Tokyo Olympics began on Friday amid the Corona epidemic, where Indian men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh and six-time world champion women’s boxer MC Mary Kom led the Indian contingent in the opening ceremony. This time India has sent the largest contingent to the Olympics with 127 athletes. A total of 26-member Indian contingent along with 20 players and six officials from India participated in it.
Japan’s Emperor Naruhito was also present at the opening ceremony of the Olympics, along with International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief Thomas Bach. Due to Corona, the Olympic opening ceremony was organized without spectators.
The tricolor was waving in the hands of Manpreet and Mary Kom during the Olympic march past. Manpreet and Mary Kom were present along with other Indian players and officials.
The opening ceremony has 1 player from Hockey, 8 from Boxing, 4 from Table Tennis, 1 from Gymnastics, 1 from Swimming, 4 from Sailing, 1 from Fencing, while the contingent comprises of six officials.
