Paris| French President Emmanuel Macron has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for slapping French President Emmanuel Macron during a public event, but has suspended 14 months of that sentence. Television station BFMTV reported from Valence’s courtroom that the 28-year-old was also banned from holding public office or possessing any weapon.
Damien T slapped the 43-year-old president during a visit to the Tan-el Hermitage, south of Lyon, on Tuesday. The incident which was caught on camera caused a stir in the whole country.
The 28-year-old did not deny the act in court and said he was a victim of injustice, DPA news agency reported.
He said, Macron stands for the fall of France. Previously he had even considered throwing an egg or a pie.
Macron spoke about the incident in a TV interview on Thursday, insisting it was a “different type of act”.
About a year before the national elections and less than two weeks before the regional elections, Macron is on a nationwide tour to meet with voters.
