India tests indigenously developed anti-tank guided missile for shortest range

New Delhi. India on Wednesday successfully test-fired an indigenously developed low-weight, fire and forget Man Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MP-ATGM). The move is being seen as promoting a self-reliant India and strengthening the Indian Army.

The missile has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The missile was launched integrated with a man portable launcher thermal sight and the target was designed like a tank.

The missile launched a direct strike and identified the target accurately. This test successfully verified the minimum range. The mission fulfilled all its objectives. The missile has already been successfully flight tested for maximum range.

The missile is fitted with a state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker with advanced avionics. After this test, the country has reached the final stage of manufacturing indigenous third generation Man Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and industry for the successful test. Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful test. (IANS)
