The delta variant of coronavirus has been detected for the first time in two northeastern states of Manipur and Mizoram, following which the authorities have asked people to be more vigilant and follow the appropriate behavior of COVID. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has confirmed that the delta variant of Kovid-19 has been detected in the state.
Addressing an official function in Imphal, the Chief Minister said, “After preliminary testing of 20 samples from Manipur in a laboratory in Hyderabad, 18 samples have been found to be of delta variant.
He said that the major cause of concern about the rapid spread of positive cases in Manipur is the delta variant itself.
The Chief Minister urged the people to be more vigilant and avoid new variants as well as follow the COVID Appropriate Practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the State Government to prevent infection.
Officials in Aizawl said that Mizoram has also reported four cases of the highly contagious delta variant (B.1.617.2) of Kovid-19.
The delta variant has been detected in four men from Aizawl district, whose samples are among others from National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani (West Bengal), Pachua Lalmalsawma, Mizoram government spokesperson on COVID-19 cases, told IANS over phone. have been sent in.
He said that of the four patients aged 18-45 years, three had a travel history, while one succumbed to the infection locally.
State nodal officer for Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) Lalmalsavama said that around 100 more samples for whole genome sequencing would be sent to NIBMG very soon.
