Mumbai . The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a recovery agent of Union Bank of India working at its main branch in Aurangabad in connection with a case of bribery through bearer cheques. An official gave this information here on Thursday.
Following a complaint, the CBI had registered a case against recovery agent Suresh Bhalerao and another unidentified public servant.
According to the complaint, Bhalerao was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 100,000 for sanction and disbursement of loans worth Rs 10 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Scheme (PMEGS).
During the investigation, the CBI managed to trap and nab the complainant in Aurangabad by laying a trap after demanding a bribe in the form of two bearer checks of Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000.
The CBI also raided Bhalerao’s residence in Aurangabad and seized some incriminating documents. He is currently in judicial custody.
CBI officials are now conducting further probe to ascertain the role of Union Bank of India officials who may be involved with Bhalerao.
