Patna . After the sudden jump in the death toll from Corona in Bihar, the Bihar government is constantly getting scolded. Facing criticism over the revised COVID-19 deaths in Bihar, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Thursday said the delay in reporting deaths at the village and district levels is the main reason behind the rise in the number of deaths in Bihar. The Health Minister said, the government has come to know from various sources that the death toll may be higher and then started working on it.

Pandey said, “We have come to know about the actual number of corona deaths in Bihar from various sources including media reports. Therefore, we have asked the district magistrate and civil surgeon of each district to ascertain the actual number of deaths at the village level. Why there has been a sudden jump in the number of deaths in Bihar.”

He further said that the cause of death in the last 15 days is also being investigated.

“When we got the final figures on Wednesday, we made it public,” Pandey said.

Bihar’s health department has reported 9,429 deaths due to coronavirus. The figures released on Wednesday evening showed 3,951 more deaths than the day before. A total of 5,458 deaths occurred due to Kovid in Bihar on Tuesday.

Responding to the allegations of opposition parties, Pandey said that they should refrain from doing politics on it.

“We have listened to every section of the people and have done a thorough investigation into the matter,” Pandey said.

Earlier, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha alleged that the state government has hidden the number of deaths due to corona in Bihar.

He said, “Nitish-BJP government hid the data and destroyed the health infrastructure to save its image in Bihar. I appeal to Nitish Kumar who played with the lives of common people during the second wave and Now doing politics over dead bodies.”

The health department gave details of deaths in all 38 districts of Bihar, but did not specify the date and time or when these deaths occurred. Patna has recorded 2,303 deaths, the highest in the state, followed by Muzaffarpur (609) and Begusarai (316).
